This is McLaren 765LT Spider, a roofless version of already sold out 765LT Coupe. If you are lucky enough and have deep enough pockets to clear 350+ thousand € price tag, you can secure one of just 765 cars to be built worldwide. Luckily they are not entirely sold out just yet.
365.000€+ price tag and just 765 examples to be built. This is one of the fastest, most expensive and most exclusive convertibles in the world.
Except for the retractable roof it is almost identical to the LT Coupe. That means McLaren’s own carbon fiber tub frame which is not only extra rigid, but also very light. It tips the scales at just 1.388kg which is 49kg more than the coupe version, but still 80kg less than a regular 720S Spider. When you throw into account the monstruous 4.0 litre twin turbo V8, that produces 765 horsepower and 800Nm of torque, you get a monumentally fast convertible supercar.
McLaren 765LT Spider is 80kg lighter than equivalent McLaren 720S Spider, with the option of MSO Clubsport Package reducing the weight even further.
How fast? Well McLaren states the same times to 100 and 200 km/h as the 765LT Coupe. That means 2,8 seconds to 100 km/h and just 7,2 seconds to reach 200 km/h. Top speed is also the same and stands at an impressive 330 km/h.
The extra bracing for removing the roof is not needed as their ‘MonoCage II’ carbon frame is so rigid and strong. Most of the extra weight therefore comes from one-piece carbon roof and its mechanism, which takes just 11 seconds to open or close, at speeds of up to 50 km/h. The rear window can be lowered independently of the roof so you can get just that little bit of extra engine noise into the cabin, even if it is raining.
One thing that was recilebrated were the dampers and active aerodynamics. McLaren promisses extra dimension of theatre and drama offered by the convertible roof, which should make the Spider even more immersive and compelling car to drive on the road. Prices in UK start at 365.000€ before options, which is around 35.000€ more than the Coupe variant. Then there are also many additional options including MSO’s Clubsport Pack which reduces weight and increase circuit performance even more.
